Blog 4 Bread and roses
Hello:
Small review the movie Bread and Roses, directed by Ken Loach (2000), i like, because the movie talks about the struggle for rights of the workers in the campaign in Los Angeles, some undocumented immigrant workers in this case the janitors, in a group that unionizes. but not all.
The protagists are Maya (Pilar Padilla), Rosa (Elpidia Carrillo) and Sam (Adrien Broly ). Maya and Rosa two Mexican sisters who work, in conditions of exploitation, as janitors in an office building in downtown Los Angeles.A meeting with Sam, a passionate American activist, will change their lives. Thanks to Sam, they become aware of their work situation and undertake a campaign to fight for their rights, but they run the risk of losing their jobs and being expelled from the country.
The story starts in the campaign in the los Angeles where Rosa works with the janitors many years. later the sister Maya goes to live with her, who is undocumented, she comes from Mexico. Rosa finds a job in the same company where she works, now Maya works with the janitors.
Maya is thankful for Perez who is supervisor in the company, but he gets her payment for first two months. After They know Sam Shapiro who tells them about the little salary they receive than seven dollars per hour, family health insurence and other benefits. The janitorial workers unionization and strike.
My favorite character is Rosa, because she is woman a fighter, her life is unhappy, she comes from Mexico very young to United States, having to work as the prostitute for money for her family to eat.
My scene favorite is whenwhen the cleaners are marching down the street, and scream if you can!and they arrive at the hall of the building and they manifest themselves, with their reds t-shirts, and with the banner" we want bread but roses too". Also i like scene when Sam.He takes out the lamb from the dish of the president of the company and also demands the rights of the janitors.
